Why did this article have nothing to do with the subheading? I thought it was going to be a response to the Atlantic article referenced, which would have been fun to read.

the response is it's hard to find Nazis when one side calls everyone a Nazi. what's your response to the Atlantic piece? I mean, finding 16 platforms out of 17k+ seems pointless and bound to bring them more notoriety than they would have ever garnered on their own. Maybe I subconsciously ignored it as my response? It seems this whole Hitler and Nazi thing is overblown at this point.

I agree that it's silly to argue that Substack has a "Nazi problem" due to finding that 16 out of 17K users are Nazis. I was just expecting the article to be about that, given the headline and subheading, so I was confused when it was about something else.

thank you for that. sincerely, i've reread it a few times and now it's got me to analyzing that. it's a rare opportunity to have a comment spur some literary introspection. it makes me wonder if I need a new subhead and a different piece? or both? very insightful and I appreciate that

Painting with a broad brush here, but from my observer's perch, the Left is it's own worst enemy. We love us a circular firing squad. We're also (collectively) really good at flinging meaningless insults and *terrible* at messaging. I also think DEI has done irreparable harm in a lot of places.

Equity of opportunity? You bet. I'll go to the mat for that any time, any place.

Equity of outcomes? Um, not so much. Merit matters. There's something to the phrase "you gotta want it."

But cute programs eliminating advanced courses makes us feel like we're doing *something.* Mostly it's a feel good exercise for administrators.

P.S. I am convinced that Katz & co. were doing whatever the newsletter version of ratf*cking is.
