Threat to Democracy!
“Corey died a hero,” Shapiro said. “Corey dived on his family to protect them last night. Corey was the very best of us.”
I’m speechless only in the sense that my thoughts, ideas, and passions boiling inside my brain, soul, and body have yet to subside. Calls for unity are drown out by jeers of triumph - he so deserved it! Offers of shooter lessons have been floated, if only a snarky comment.
The eyewitness accounts are harrowing, consistent, and troubling. The sounds, sights, screams, and shouts are visceral. We lost a man - girl-dad, husband, firefighter, son, friend, citizen - and two others are touch-and-go.
Just because they decided to attend a political rally. In an act expressly written and placed first in our canon of rights, the founders guaranteed to American Citizens the Freedom of Assembly. Those Freedoms were attacked yesterday.
The coward’s motives remain unknown, but it is clearly known how this will be viewed, digested, regurgitated, and historicized. We’re already seeing it. Claims of “staging” and “fake blood” besmirch the honor of Corey Comperatore. Was it a fake brain matter splattered all over his wife and daughters? Disgusting.
Please send a prayer to God for this man’s soul and for his family to feel touched by those prayers and the loving Hand of Jesus. We now have an American Citizen dead because of his politics. In an atmosphere that made him a target. Just because of who he votes for. And now, his family, friends, and community will have to carry on without him.
And this country has to carry on with with this fight. In honor of Corey.
I’ll leave you with the eloquent, gracious, and touching words of another wife, mother, and American Citizen. And scroll down to listen to a patriotic playlist.
