mxdwn Interview: The Black Angels’ Christian Bland & Stephanie Bailey Discuss Album Process, Touring & More
On March 16, 2020, a person could legitimately have been considered nuts if they had predicted how the future would unfold for me. Remember all of those long-term plans we all had? Remember putting actual thought into answering the question Where will you be in five years?
Hell, can you even remember five years ago? It’s like covid and the lockdowns added this weird time multiplier, like dog years or something. Recalling an event from prior to the date above has now become a pain in the ass math problem. The three year mark hits us soon, and and I wonder how in the hell we can answer that question now.
I can say with absolute certainty that had Covid not hit, I would not be interviewing rock stars about their life and times.
Goal setting is nothing without action steps. Goals are not results, so conflating them leads to friction. And friction is the mortal enemy of movement as we all know. About five years ago I weighed about 30 pounds heavier than I do now. I set a goal: make and drink a beet smoothie every day.
My goal was not to lose weight per se, although that was the ultimate result I wanted to achieve. Losing that much weight seemed like a ton of hard work. Making a smoothie every day felt a lot easier. And it was.
I now maintain the same weight I was in high school, 40 years ago. My body feels better and my confidence levels have increased. When I feel my belt tighten, I realize that I missed some smoothies, and I get back on track.
That’s a weird rando way to introduce my latest effort over at mxdwn.com but here we are right? Interviewing a rock star has it own bag of anxieties, especially on Zoom.
Having confidence in my appearance, awareness of my emotions, and satisfaction in my personal growth leads me to greater and greater results. It can do the same for you. No matter what your ultimate result-want is, small goals will get you there.
The Black Angels newest release is called Wilderness of Mirrors. If you click on the mind-bending image you see, it will take you to the mind-blowing music you want. On whatever listening platform that doesn’t suck this week for you.
The Black Angels website is pretty thought-altering as well. Look at me, making QR codes and all. Better late than never. Oh boy, see the previous post here.
When I measure my metrics, as every diligent writer should do, I am struck and humbled by the sheer volume of names I recognize on the graph. Each click of measurement reveals a new way or method of looking at my growth. Which all comes from you.
