The Power of Attention is a Game-Changing Motivating Force
Success in the Now-Normal Attention Economy hinges on Content Creation. Producing content presents several distinct challenges to the human brain. The Power of Attention shines but a narrow cone of light unidirectionally on one’s choices and desires.
Creating content for my Substack is an endeavor of love for me. And passion. Creating content for other platforms incorporate those emotions, but writing there has a more practical ambition attached to it. Missing my own deadline for Compass Star is quite a different matter than blowing a deadline for a real job.
Writing has caused and created growth in me. One of the major growth areas in my personal life came when I stopped using certain words to describe myself or my actions. It removed a layer of friction to my actions that allowed me to flow energy more freely to my choices.
For instance, I stopped saying the word TRY to describe my attempts to do something. Yoda said it quite simply “Do or Do Not. There is No Try.” For me, it’s an excuse NOT to do something.
Others words relate to value judgements we make about ourselves on a second-by-second basis, it seems. We spend so much time self-editing in the moment that we often miss the present. In my interviews with musicians, that seems to be a common theme.
I stopped using the words “BETTER” or “WORSE” to describe myself after a self-improvement action. I started using the concept that I just grew. My goal isn’t to be a “Better Person”. That just seems like a pipe-dream fantasy. “I’m better now. “ Like, get up off the couch saying “I’m all normal now!”
I judge my growth by a new standard.
I learned more about myself today than I knew about myself yesterday
Will it make me a better person? Or a worse one? I guess we’re not sure yet. As it goes in prison, so it goes in life. We already been judged.
All of this to announce another goal I’ve achieved. I’ve had my third feature article publish in mxdwn.com. If you haven’t visited this online mag, you need to. It’s all things pop culture and entertainment.
mxdwn Favorites Go For GRAMMY Gold
Thank you Compass Star Community. Thank you. Your attention to me has changed my life. I learn more about myself every time I write for you.
Take a listen to this playlist. I put together songs that leave the pop-sugar out and bring in the bitters. This season does many things to our hearts. I hope your heart is filled with love, kindness, and compassion. I hope those feelings allow your heart to grow three times it current size. We need more big-hearted people on this earth.
God Bless You.
Merry Christmas.
Ric
